What does the notion of home mean to you?

Yun Sean and Svet explore the question using the technique of performative drawing.

Perhaps the paper is a safe space in a foreign town,

Perhaps, the paper serves as a map on which home is to be traced.

Yun, from Taoyuan, Taiwan moved to Taipei at 16 and has stayed since then.

Sean, from Kaohsiung, Taiwan moved to Taipei at 13, Shanghai at 19, and now resides in London.

Svet, from Kyiv, Ukraine, moved between Warsaw and Kyiv from the age of 15, and now, like Sean, resides in London.

We use the paint as the medium to trace the experiences of growing up, leaving home and finding a sense of belonging elsewhere. The space in which we move resembles the atmosphere of home.

“I am more familiar with the map in Taipei than Taoyuan, nevertheless I always get emotional taking the train back into the capital from Taoyuan”

“No matter where I am, as long as I feel safe, I am home.”

“I am at home wherever I am as long as I have this body of mine.”

We decided to discover the notion of Home as our connection, walking into each others journey once we are connected; walking out of it once we find an impulse to be with ourselves. The process and the feeling was unpredictable and valuable, the technology brought us together. As the sun set in Taiwan, it rose in London, we connected and moved with the sun.
